Mustangs Men Corraled By Cowboys 93-84

LAS VEGAS, NM -- Western New Mexico University's men's basketball team couldn't overcome a slow start Wednesday night and fell 93-84 to New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas in the opening regular season game for the Mustangs. Despite getting double figures from four players, WNMU dug themselves a 17-point deficit at the intermission and could never recover against the Cowboys, who shot a solid 53 percent from the field for the game.

Western went 10-of-37 in the first half to Highlands' 55%. The Mustangs were out-rebounded in the game 39-27, but that stat occurs often if one team is making shots, and the other is not.

WNMU was led by Matt Enriquez's (Sr., El Paso, TX) 25-point performance. Mike Sells (Sr., Sedona, AZ) also had the hot hand in the second half, nailing 19 points for the game. Casey Crevelone (So., Tucson, AZ) and Trey Clarkson (So., Tucson, AZ) added 12-points each.

The Mustangs will travel to El Paso to face Texas-El Paso Friday night in the Special Events Center before getting New Mexico State Monday night in Las Cruces. Tip off for both games is 7:00pm
